Modern Foreign Languages Curriculum Intent
At Nene Valley Primary School our Spanish curriculum is designed and sequenced in a way that allows children to develop a curiosity in learning other languages, through enjoyable and stimulating learning. We encourage children’s confidence and stimulate a love of language. We actively plan links to develop their awareness of cultural differences in other countries.
Our MFL curriculum is designed to progressively develop children’s skills in languages, through regularly taught, exciting lessons. Children progressively acquire, use and apply a growing bank of knowledge and vocabulary. Our Spanish curriculum teaches: numbers, colours, greetings, house and home, food and drink, the classroom, clothes and hobbies.
When children leave Nene Valley Primary, they will have a natural curiosity and confidence to explore other countries, cultures and languages, accepting that, in a multi-lingual society, it is a valuable skill to be able to communicate effectively with others in another language. We strive to embed the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing necessary to enable children to use and apply their Spanish learning in a variety of contexts and lay the
foundations for future language learning.
