EYFS (2023-2024)
At Nene Valley Primary School our EYFS curriculum is designed using a core book approach. Our children acquire the relevant knowledge and skills to meet the Early Learning Goals and attain a Good Level of Development by the end of their reception year. Our children thrive from exposure to a range of quality books. The core book approach allows the school to plan for and emphasise key vocabulary and knowledge, whilst ensuring it is placed within a meaningful context for the children. By planning for a range of ‘core book’ activities, across the full range of the EYFS curriculum, children encounter key vocabulary frequently and often, allowing words and concepts to be remembered. Our EYFS curriculum prepares our children for the next stage of learning and beyond.
A wide variety of engaging activities are carefully planned for, across the full range of the EYFS curriculum, which fall outside the context of the core books. Our curriculum is sequenced and designed to link directly to the Key stage 1 and Key stage 2 curriculum. Children have a strong foundation which prepares then for the rigour of our key stages 1 & 2 curriculum; encountering concepts in an age-appropriate way, such as, geographical, historical, and artistic concepts so that the move into some of the more formal approaches to teaching and learning in Key stage 1 are more familiar to them.

The curriculum below is for the year 2023 to 2024. Our EYFS curriculum does not rotate on a two-year cycle like the rest of the school.
